Process & FAQs

Does what we talk about in therapy remain confidential?

There is a delicate balance when working with minors. How can we provide a space where they feel free to talk about anything on their mind while also ensuring that their guardians/parents are kept up to date on the things they need to know?

This is something that we will work on together during our initial session. Some parents want to provide that space for their child, while others want more information than just the minimum. Our goal is to help your child! Since each child is different, then this is something that we will work on together.

However, no matter what we decide is the best approach please know that I will break confidentiality without exception if I am concerned about you or your child’s safety or if I suspect abuse/neglect of the child.

How long will therapy take?

Each person is different. Many factors determine how long therapy will need to last. These factors include the intensity of your child’s depression/anxiety, how willing they are to make changes, how quickly they trust me, how much work they do outside of their sessions, their personalities, etc. etc.

I usually ask for a commitment of a minimum of 4 sessions, from there we will have a much clearer idea of what the road aheads looks like.

Will you prescribe medication?

No. As a Licensed Professional Counselor I do not prescribe medication. However, check the resources page for the name of psychiatrists in the area.

Will my child need to miss school?

Probably. My focus is on teenagers/young adults whose depression or anxiety is getting in the way of them living a vital and meaningful life. You may not think their mental health is in a place where it would be beneficial to miss school in order to receive counseling. If this is true, then it may be that I am not the right fit for you. However, if you are unsure if it would be worth your child missing school then I would suggest you schedule a free 15 minute consultation and we can discuss it.

What are your fees and how do I pay?

$110 for a 55 minute session

$175 for a 90 minute session

You can pay by cash, check, or I can securely store your credit card information so we do not waste counseling time with billing.

Do you accept insurance?

I do not accept any form of insurance. You can, however, use HSA and FSA dollars towards payments. Additionally, I can provide a Superbill for you to submit to your insurance company.
